Winter Stand

( 9x12 – Acrylic on Canvas textured paper – CLICK HERE TO BID – Starting at $185 )

This is a stand of trees just about a 100 yards from my home. I love the subtle rhythm and the muted tones of wintertime. This day was grey and just starting to lightly snow. All bundled in layers with my hood up, my walk is a meditation, punctuated by the occasional scurrying bunny or hungry squirrel. The landscape is still very alive with the rustle of the branches, bird song and the meter of my gate in tune with my breath.

Happy Valentine's Day!

"Every picture shows a spot with which
the artist has fallen in love."  -- Alfred Sisley

The Valley of the Seine at Saint Cloud by Alfred Sisley, 1875. Musee des Beaux-Arts Rennes, France

Alfred Sisley, was a British citizen born in Paris in 1839. He is one of my favorite Impressionist painters. Look at that light! Although his career was overshadowed by his friends, Monet and Renoir who he met while studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, they often painted together outdoors. Sisley remained committed to landscape painting en plein air throughout his career, and created over 900 paintings, 100 pastels and many drawings.

I just reformatted my website. It has a much cleaner look and I hope is easier to navigate. Check it out: edwardkosinski.com
